Susan Berston was a campus tour guide while a college student at the University of California, Berkeley, Even after hundreds of elevator rides crammed with visitors eager to reach the Campanile’s observation deck 200 feet above, her love of academia and campus life never subsided.
She completed a Masters in Business Administration at the University of San Francisco, and soon thereafter found herself working for a Japanese bank in its corporate banking division. After a few years of loan committee meetings and the somewhat isolating process of number crunching to deem credit worthiness, Susan was drawn to, and aptly suited for sales, thereby joining Chicago-based printing company, RR Donnelley & Sons Company (RRD). At Donnelley she learned the art of creative problem solving, customer satisfaction, and overcoming challenges. It helped as she became a mom in 1997. In 2000, she left the corporate world behind, and in 2006, became a full-time faculty member in the School of Business at City College of San Francisco. She has never looked back! Honored with an Award of Excellence from the Office of Student Affairs, Berston is an engaged student mentor and faculty advisor for Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honors Society and the Kiva Microfinance Club. She is a member of the college’s Academic Senate Executive Council. Contributing to the success of her students is simply icing on the cake.
